Covid policy protests continue at Georgia universities

Faculty, staff groups fight against lack of mandate for collegiate classes, campuses.

It’s the second week of faculty and staff protests demanding action from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents and Gov. Brian Kemp. On Thursday, the board took no action to update its Covid policy and mandate masks or vaccines. Protests are planned at other state campuses.

Money earmarked for Savannah Project DeRenne, other items stalled

Targeted funds could return in another federal effort later this year.

Georgia’s most expensive earmarked allocation was nominated by Pooler Republican Rep. Buddy Carter. He later voted against President Joe Biden’s INVEST in America Act that included the Savannah project for not directing enough money for roads, bridges and ports.

As elected officials redraw the boundaries of legislative districts in Georgia that will hold for the next 10 years, residents of Coastal Georgia are pleading to have their voices heard. In a public comment meeting Monday, residents of Glynn, Chatham and other counties urged state legislators for an equitable and transparent redistricting process that takes local communities into account.
