University System of Georgia enrollment sees slight drop

College of Coastal Georgia, Savannah State decrease; Ga Southern remains flat.

The demographic numbers showed growth among Hispanic and Asian students, which increased their enrollments by 3.4% and 10.3%, respectively. Enrollment by Black students was down 2.4%, while white student enrollment dropped 2.2%.

Savannah will soon start the process of adding solar panels to 22 municipal buildings, Mayor Van Johnson said Friday. Requests for proposals will be posted by the end of the month.

Savannah’s SeaPoint to add electronics recycling plant

New York-based company to invest $85 million, hire 150 workers.

Plant will extract reusable metal components from e-waste while eliminating organic matter from the material. The resulting product, a concentrate of copper and precious metals, is then delivered to metal smelting companies through the Port of Savannah.

Covid policy protests continue at Georgia universities

Faculty, staff groups fight against lack of mandate for collegiate classes, campuses.

It’s the second week of faculty and staff protests demanding action from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents and Gov. Brian Kemp. On Thursday, the board took no action to update its Covid policy and mandate masks or vaccines. Protests are planned at other state campuses.
