With all 12 precincts reporting, State Rep. Al Williams will return to the Gold Dome after beating challenger Henry Covington 78% to 22%. Williams took 3,910 votes to Covington’s 1,103.

Williams has served for 22 years and holds positions on the powerful House Appropriations and Rules Committees, as well as on Defense and Veterans Affairs; Economic Development and Tourism; Game, Fish and Parks; and Regulated Industries.

Covington ran on a platform of sensible growth coupled with environmental stewardship, promising to institute “sustainable practices” and protection for the coast and waterways.

All results are unofficial until certified by the Georgia Secretary of State.
