Starting March 16, Georgia farmers, ranchers and foresters who suffered damage from 2024’s Hurricane Helene will be able to apply for federal recovery grants.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture will divide $531 million in federal grant money among producers whose losses are not covered by any other U.S. Department of Agriculture aid program. That includes damage to buildings, timber, livestock and more.
The money will not make impacted producers 100% whole, but it will help farm families get back on their feet, Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper said in a press release. The University of Georgia estimated total Helene agriculture and timber losses at $5.5 billion.
Gov. Brian Kemp and Harper announced last year that the Trump administration would grant the cash, pending final administrative details. Since then, Harper has been promising that the cash would be forthcoming and has a website ready for applications at www.farmrecovery.com.
The deadline to apply is April 27, 2026.
