The Current continues to follow this story and will update as warranted.
Last night at approximately 8 p.m., an isolated thunderstorm moved across the entire fire area.
Rain gauges recorded between 0.4 and 0.8 inches. While this rainfall does not extinguish the fire, it has provided firefighters with relief from the extreme fire behavior observed in recent days.
Winds today will be from the northeast and will shift to the east tonight and Tuesday. These wind patterns will continue to push fire activity away from Glynn County.
The shift to northeast winds will push on the western side of the fire along Highway 110.

Glynn orders evacuations on Saturday
Late Saturday, mandatory evacuations were ordered for residents along the Brantley-Glynn County line. The affected areas include Old Post Road to Highway 32, Highway 32 to Thalman Park Lane, Thalman Park Lane to Bladen Road, and Bladen Road to Old Post Road.
“The fire got within about two and a half miles of the Glynn County line. So we actually, actually had a line. So we kind of drew a line in the sand. When it gets to this point, then we definitely want to consider evacuation,” said County Manager Bill Fallon on Sunday.
“We will know more tomorrow. So we can’t say whether or not we’re going to expand that or reduce the evacuation order, but I think tomorrow will be telling. But again, we just have to be careful, because if we make too many decisions tomorrow, it’s still going to be dry throughout the rest of the week,” he added.
Based on the westerly wind trajectory and updated fire behavior assessments, the fire is moving away from Glynn County.
Given these conditions, Glynn County is downgrading the current mandatory evacuation order to a voluntary evacuation for the following areas:
- Old Post Road to Highway 32
- Highway 32 to Thalman Park Lane
- Thalman Park Lane to Bladen Road
- Bladen Road to Old Post Road
This recommendation comes from the Southern Area Complex Incident Management Team and aligns with Glynn County’s current assessment.
Residents should understand that this status may change if fire behavior shifts, wind direction changes, or additional closures are required.
Dense smoke is still widespread across Glynn County. Current wind patterns are pushing smoke into the county, reducing visibility and diminishing air quality.
To limit smoke exposure, residents are asked to stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows and doors closed, and run the air conditioning on recirculate mode if available. Those with respiratory conditions, older adults, children, and pets should take extra precautions and avoid prolonged outdoor activity.
Glynn County remains under a local burn ban, and the Georgia Forestry Commission has issued a statewide burn ban that covers 91 counties. Outdoor burning and the use of personal fireworks are prohibited.
County officials say they have been in communication with Sen. Ossoff and Rep. Carter, as well as all local legislators and the governor’s office.
