JobPALOOZA Job Fair: International Paper/DS Smith employees and the public are invited to an 8-county job fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Enmarket Arena, 620 Stiles Ave. Sponsored by the Regional Industry Support Enterprise, International Paper, City of Savannah, Chatham County, WorkSource Coastal, and Savannah Tech. CAMDEN COUNTY
Art and Music: Kick off your weekend in St. Marys with the Coastal Camden Art League’s First Friday reception, 2006 Osborne Road, for Artists of the Month Steve and Pam Sikes, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 5. Refreshments, more than 35 local artists and crafters, Amanda Mood Music.

Book Sale Richmond Hill Friends of the Library: The First Saturday Book Sale by the Bryan County Chamber of Commerce, partnered with Common Threads Richmond Hill, a nonprofit committed to helping local nursing homes, shelters, and hospitals. All proceeds support the Richmond Hill Public Library, while sales from Common Threads support its designated local charities. GLYNN COUNTY
ACLU of GA Director coming to Brunswick: The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is the country’s largest public interest law firm that has 50 affiliate offices throughout the United States. The executive director of ACLU Georgia, Andrea Young, will be in Brunswick. Young will discuss what the ACLU of GA’s priorities are and what has been accomplished thus far and provide citizens with ways they can engage. The event is free and will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20. at the Stembler Theater on the College of Coastal Georgia’s campus.
Opioid kits available at fire stations: The county has made 200 overdose prevention kits available across eight fire stations. The kits were made available through the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant and Substance Use Program (COSSUP), a federal grant. Anyone aged 18 or older can pick up a kit at one of the fire stations. LIBERTY COUNTY
Riceboro IP job fair: The Liberty County Development Authority will host a job fair targeted to International Paper employees affected by the plant’s shutdown on 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Riceboro Youth Center, 5649 S. Coastal Hwy. Non-IP job seekers are also welcome. Worksource Coastal, Savannah, Tech, SNF, International Paper/DS Smith, the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, and other local industrial employers will take part. Free food for on-site survey completion, plus resume-writing help. Meanwhile, check out RISE’s Succeed in Savannah job board. Companies wanting to take part can fill out this form.
Native Plant giveaway: Help save the planet by planting native species! Get started today, at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Hinesville Farmers and Makers Market in Bradwell Park, 107 S. Commerce St. in Downtown Hinesville. Free parking in lots across from City Hall. Look for the blue Keep Liberty Beautiful tent. Plants available on first-come, first-serve basis.
Also today, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Historic Jail in Hinesville, check out the Hinesville Area Arts Council‘s Show of Hands, featuring local artists. It’s just a block away from Bradwell Park at 102 Commerce St.
MCINTOSH COUNTY
Diabetes Support Group and Informational Meeting: The McIntosh County Health Department, in partnership with the Talki Foundation, is launching a Diabetes Support Group and Informational Meeting to provide eduation, resources, and a supportive community for individuals living with diabetes and their families. The first meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the McIntosh County Health Department, 1335 GA-57. For more info, click here. Meetings will be on the first Thursday of every month at the same time and location. Blood glucose and blood pressure screenings will be provided at every meeting. Historic Preservation Commission special called meeting: A special called meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Bluestein Room at Darien City Hall. Commissioners to consider and vote to approve/deny the Joint Historic Preservation Commission to be the grant applicant for the Grace Church project to apply for funding from the National Trust’s Preserving Black Churches Fund.
EFFINGHAM COUNTY
Support the arts: Check out Realty Companies semi-annual art show, the new arts space, and the awards ceremony for Capturing Effingham Photography Contest winners from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 5 at Effingham Artists’ new studio space in the Iron Block Building, 123 Laurel St., Springfield.

Camden County’s appeal fails, must settle $2.6 million debt for spaceport site

Camden County has been told by a federal appeals court to pay the outstanding money owed to Union Carbide Corp for the land where county commissioners wanted to build a now-defunct spaceport, ending the county’s efforts to recoup its costs from the failed project.
