Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Election Boards to certify votes

Within a week after every election, each county election board meets to “certify” their county’s results.

The county election board and its director review detailed election results in public. After the discussion and review, the board members vote to certify the results, to signal that the counting is formally finished.  (Read what a meeting is like in minutes from a June 2024 Chatham runoff certification meeting here.)

But Republicans aligned with former president Donald Trump have attacked this bit of administration lately.

A Republican member of the Fulton County election board, with the support of the America First Policy Institute brought her own county to court.  She had refused to certify Fulton’s election results in May and sought a court backing for her inaction — and the inaction of some of her peers across Georgia.

She didn’t get the answer she wanted.  Per the judge’s ruling, it’s not the job of a local election board to be investigator, prosecutor, jury or judge of any alleged fraud.  County election boards still need to certify the vote. If they, or anyone, thinks they see voter fraud, there’s a already a process for bringing that challenge to open court.

The state has its own five-member election board too — former president Donald Trump has praised three of its members, calling those Republican-appointed members “pit bulls” for victory.  And those “pit bull” members have moved to change election administration rules in the months running up to the election. The state board tried to mandate a hand-tally of paper ballots on election night by poll workers who had already been at work all day.

A court hit pause on that proposed rule too — figuring that such a big change at the last minute would create enough administrative chaos to undermine faith in elections.

But still, expect a long day on Tuesday.

Local election boards are among the roughly 50 agencies that The Current monitors to build this calendar of public meetings over the next two weeks. Keep scrolling, it’s a long list.

This list starts with an automated collection and is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
