Turn down the lights?
Glynn County might soon join the coastal communities that curtail light pollution to keep beaches safely dark for nesting sea turtles.
Residents packed two meetings about proposed zoning updates and they talked turtles, reports The Current GA’s Jabari Gibbs. Lights above the new Brunswick Buc-ee’s may misorient turtles on beaches miles away, The Current first reported last year.
New rules might require lights point away from the beach or use amber, red or other color bulbs that are less disruptive to turtles’ vision. The proposed outdoor lighting rules are a small part of a very large zoning update.
