Glynn OK with data centers; Camden considering

Glynn County will permit data centers under the new 235-page zoning ordinance rewrite ratified by a county commission vote Thursday, The Current GA’s Jabari Gibbs reports. 

The county hasn’t received any proposals for data centers, a Glynn spokeswoman said, but characterized the permissive language as proactive, in case of future industry interest.

The water- and energy-guzzling developments put enough Georgians on edge that 11 counties have temporarily banned their development — and Glynn environmentalists sought the same outcome.

Camden commissioners are thinking about data centers too — that’s the topic of a whole work session Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Government Services Complex in Woodbine.
