Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Request for island at Kingsland Planning and Zoning

An Atlanta-based developer wants 571 marshfront acres miles from Kingsland rezoned for a neighborhood and annexed into the city. Kingsland’s planning and zoning board is set to hear the unusual request, which comes in part from a congressman, Tuesday evening.

Drapac Investments LLC proposes building 750 homes in the Sheffield Island enclave, most of which are wooded acres now owned by Coastal Georgia Congressman Earl “Buddy” Carter, The Current’s Mary Landers reported.

An “island,” a piece of city that isn’t connected to the rest of the city, brings some administrative headaches and costs. Even when a developer covers upfront costs of bringing city water to an island, it leaves ongoing costs of providing maintenance, police, planning and other services to a distant area.

Both a city and county have to OK any island annexation. Kingsland is claiming neutrality and commitment to the public process. Camden is raising questions about issues like traffic and the costly need for a new bridge in the unincorporated county to serve a new city population.

We know about this proposed subdivision because annexation and zoning questions are heard in public at a board that makes a recommendation to the city council.

Kingsland proactively publishes its planning and zoning meeting dates, agendas and staff reports.

This list starts with an automated collection that does not involve AI. It is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
