Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Yes there’s a public meeting on St. Patrick’s Day

While most of Coastal Georgia will take a break from governing today, the state of Georgia is holding its only in-person public comment session on a health care program that’s spent more than $86 million to serve approximately 6,800 people.

The hearing on Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s alternative to Medicaid, by the way, is not in Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus, Macon or Athens.  It’s in Cordele. At noon. On St. Patrick’s Day.

Georgia Pathways to Coverage is supposed to offer health care coverage to nearly a quarter-million low-income state residents who can prove they are working, studying or volunteering.  However the program is not achieving two primary goals: enrolling people in health care and getting them to work,  The Current’s Margaret Coker reports in a monthslong investigation.

Kemp needs a federal waiver to continue to run Pathways beyond September. The process of extending the waiver requires a 30-day public comment period. Initially the state had two public meetings in February, but only via Zoom. The state did not answer questions about why a third in-person meeting was scheduled later — or how the location was selected.

But if you can’t make it to Cordele on Monday, consider watching or visiting a local government meeting in your community. Our calendar below covers public meetings over the next two weeks.  Let us know how we’re doing with this list, how you’re using it or ideas you have for improving it.

This list starts with an automated collection and is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
