Find your public meetings, agendas

Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Precious minutes

At all public meetings, there’s an official note-taker who writes up meeting minutes: a summary of the discussions, votes and any other business done by a public board.

And you can read those minutes for a quick summary of what your local elected officials have been doing.

Typically board minutes are ready after the board’s subsequent meeting, once board members have reviewed and OK’d the notes.  Check around your city, school board, county or other agency website for minutes. Liberty and Chatham counties, for example, use software that publishes minutes on the same page as agendas.

Call or e-mail the board’s clerk or administrator if there are no minutes online and ask for a copy.  Minutes are a public document that you’re entitled to read.

We’re tracking about 50 public agencies on Georgia’s coast, and if there’s one you’d like to see added, let us know and we’ll try to add it. This list, covering the next two weeks, depends on what agencies publish on their websites.

This list starts with an automated collection and is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
