Find your public meetings, agendas

Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Sunshine Law guarantees

State and federal Sunshine Laws guarantee your right to watch elected officials vote and to read most of the documents that they read. Fans and users of these rights to information celebrate a whole national Sunshine Week, going on now.

Anybody can use these laws, like the resident who dislodged key information about a proposed nickel refinery in Bryan County. The Current GA’s reporters depend on the law to get emails, memos, minutes and more which can confirm or dispel rumors, or document success or failure of expensive public programs

Georgia’s sunshine comes through the state Open Records and Open Meetings acts, which require cities, counties, school boards and other agencies to post meeting notices at their meeting places and online (if they have a website.) Those online calendars are where we find the entries in this calendar.

If your government isn’t posting something you want to see, use the Georgia Open Records Act to request a copy. There are a few exceptions but it’s usually as simple as asking a board clerk or open records officer; check the nonprofit Georgia First Amendment Foundation for more instructions.

Our list of public meetings covers the next two weeks as well as any agendas we could find so far.  Let us know how we’re doing or how you use this list at staff@thecurrentga.org.

This list starts with an automated collection that does not involve AI. It is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
