Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.
Friend your community
Your local government might have a lot of interesting community announcements — if you know where to look.
The place is often social media. Camden County’s Facebook page offers a typical mix of public meeting announcements, hurricane season info and fun stuff like festivals. Some, like Glynn County, even venture to Instagram. Try searching your community on your platform of choice.
Social media posts aren’t a substitute for the legal requirement to post public meeting notices at meeting places, in newspapers or on any website the government operates.
The Current checks about 50 local government agency websites every week to build our calendar of public meetings. We wrote computer code to check those public calendars, and can’t search password-protected sites like Instagram and Facebook. We’re depending on what agencies publish on their websites. This list starts with an automated collection that does not involve AI. It is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information. Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.
You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
