Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.
A very special meeting
Local boards and councils sometimes add to their regular schedules with “special called” meetings, generally to discuss one issue.
For example, on Tuesday, three local governments are holding a special meeting together: Bryan County, Richmond Hill and the county’s development authority are getting a joint update on the proposed county airport. Last week, the McIntosh County Commission held a special meeting to talk about getting a new county manager to replace one who’s resigning.
The public is invited to special meetings, there should be an agenda and minutes taken. A special meeting is just as public as a regular meeting.
Local governments can call special meetings with as little as 24 hours’ notice; they need only post a notice at the meeting place and send it to the biggest (or only) local newspaper.
Many agencies post notices online also, but they can be easy to miss down in some agenda or notices page.
