Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.
New authorities
Both Tybee Island and Bryan County are each on track to get a new government body, via the activities of the Georgia legislature.
The City of Tybee Island Building and Public Facilities Authority would be able to borrow money for new city buildings. A typical public facilities authority exists on paper but doesn’t do much unless or until a city or county wants to borrow money. The Richmond Hill-Bryan County Airport Authority would be in charge of an airport there that the city, county and yet another authority are looking to organize.
Local bills creating both are now on Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk for his consideration.
At least 1,300 local government authorities exist, more than the number of Georgia cities, counties and school boards combined. Yet few residents would even know to look for them or watch how they spend money.
In the meantime, here’s our list of public meetings over the next two weeks, which includes some authorities. The Current is following about 50 public entities and counting. Let us know how we’re doing or how you use this list at staff@thecurrent.org.

Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information. Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.
You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
