Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Who decides what goes where

For two hours at a public meeting last week, Savannahians mainly railed against new hotels south of Forsyth Park. 

Enough that members of the Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission voted for a broader ban, The Current GA’s Margaret Coker reports.

The commission’s recommendation now goes to the Savannah City Council for the final zoning decision.

By state law, cities and counties have to hold public hearings on proposed zoning changes: look for a board with “planning” or “zoning” or both in its name. Its staff prepares a public report on the request and possible impacts of the change, like more traffic or taller buildings. Then the commissioners hold a public hearing and vote some recommendations to the elected officials who make the final decision on zoning changes.
