Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Camden Agenda sets off wilderness-lovers

Publication of last week’s Camden County Commission agenda alarmed hundreds of people who treasure the wilderness of Cumberland Island.

The National Park Service is seeking the county’s blessing for land swaps that it says will relocate private ownership to places where it is less impactful on visitors.

But it’s not clear what development might be allowed on newly-private land under the plan, environmental groups note. One commissioner said the county got more than 500 emails from swap skeptics urging the commission to at least pause until more facts are available. 

And by a 3-2 vote, the commission declined to support the swap,The Current GA’s Mary Landers reported.  

The park service can return and ask again. If they do, the request should appear on an agenda.
