Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Findings in the tree canopy

Georgia Tech has looked at nine years of high-resolution satellite pictures of coastal Georgia’s tree canopy and now a senior research scientist is ready to present what they found — or what’s disappeared.

Public agencies sometimes hold special meetings to publicize topics, like plans for a road, proposed budget spending or, even, yes, sometimes scientific findings.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources funded the canopy research and is co-hosting five public presentations on the coast. The first half of each presentation covers the project in general; the second half covers county results.

The Current’s public meeting list includes 50 agencies and counting that we track in coastal counties — keep scrolling, it’s a long list but there’s always something there that will affect you directly.

As always, if there is a public entity you’d like to see, let us know. We’ll try to add it. This list of meetings over the next two weeks depends on what local governments offer on the internet.

This list starts with an automated collection and is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
