Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.
About county public health departments
If you’ve seen a rabies alert or read a restaurant inspection score, you’ve encountered the work of the Georgia Department of Public Health or one of its county health offices. That county office might also be where you or your neighbors got vaccinations, a free mammogram, dentistry for kids or a test for lead in the water.
Every county has a public health office and that office has a quarterly public board meetings. Chatham County’s is on May 14. Others on the coast are in the following weeks and you’ll see them on The Current’s list of public meetings.
The agenda for Chatham’s meeting indicates a pretty typical list of updates is coming — but it’s also the first local meeting since the federal government cut billions in Covid-era epidemiology funding before its expiration date. Rebecca Grapevine at our partner publication Healthbeat reports that the state health department has been quiet about how $334 Georgia’s million in cuts will affect public health services.
