Welcome aboard! Here’s your  list of public meetings and agendas for the next two weeks to help you follow the work of local government officials you’ve elected.

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions, keep sending them! We’re following more than 50 public agencies now and still adding more.  What we post depends on what cities, counties and other agencies post. Some publish detailed schedules and agendas days in advance. Others do not.

Rayonier permit hearing

Much of Georgia’s environmental regulation is done by the state government rather than the federal government.  Air and water pollution permits, for example, are issued through the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Often, public meetings are part of the process.

State environmental regulators are holding a meeting to collect comments on Rayonier Advanced Materials’ request to renew a permit to discharge into the Altamaha River from its pulp mill in Jesup.  Environmentalists are already calling for tighter limits — the plant discharge is visible even at current standards.

Particpate in the meeting online via Zoom, on April 25 at 7:00 p.m.  Or call in by telephone at 470-381-2552. The meeting ID is 607 166 5276.

This list starts with an automated collection and is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
