Public meeting reveals water debt depth

Theoretically a public water service shouldn’t make money — or lose money.  The water and sewer bills that customers pay should add up to just about what it takes to keep the water flowing and the sewers clear.

But in Midway, the public first learned the depth of a financial problem in their water and sewer system at a Feb. 6 city council workshop. 

The city hasn’t been charging enough to keep the water and sewer system functioning and rates there may rise by about 44% this spring, The Current GA’s Robin Kemp reports. City leaders stress they have not voted on any specific prices yet.
