GLYNN COUNTY
Hotel tax increase: On July 1, the Glynn County Accommodation Excise Tax will take effect, increasing the taxes at hotels and motels from 5% to 7%. The rise was formalized in May after Gov. Kemp signed House Bill 732, which authorized the county to levy a tax increase. The county says that the increase will spur tourism infrastructure investment, while preventing a rise in the mileage rate. The tax change does not apply to the city of Brunswick or Jekyll Island.
Hand in Hand gets medical services on-site: The Current has reported on the many setbacks of the tiny home development off Altama Ave, which was designed to support the chronically homeless for over a year. However, this week we have some positive news to share about the nonprofit seeking to house those who have nowhere else to go. Last week, Hand in Hand announced that Southeast Georgia Health System will provide urgent and preventive health services, including physicals, chronic care and mental health, to all residents free of charge.
