CHATHAM COUNTY

Support your local artist: Savannah Local Artists Market holds its 11th annual art fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Salvation Army Ball Field, 3000 Bee Road, Savannah, at the Kerry Street. entrance. Featuring over 80 artists and multiple mediums: fine arts, textiles, photography, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, mixed media, and more. Food trucks, live music, Paint on Community Canvas, family-friendly. Free entrance/street parking. Sponsored by Friedman’s Framing.
Arts as Anthem: Two groups supporting Savannah’s LGBTQ+ community will hold a community fundraiser and showcase a local art exhibit, “Manifesting Freedom,” 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, at Front Porch Improv, 210 W. Victory Dr., Savannah. Jeannette McCune of Cleo the Project Space and Michael Bell of Savannah Pride Center will address their organizations’ community-building efforts. Special performance by Chi Chi Bonet Sherrington. Tickets $20.
Skates Night at the park: The 912 Skaters Coalition holds an all-ages skate 7 to 9:30 p.m. every Thursday at Lake Mayer Park, 850 E Montgomery Cross Road, Savannah. Featuring tunes by DJ Live Child. Free skating; Cash App tips to $djlivechild. The group is working to create a safe, inclusive skating facility in Savannah.
Register for summer camp: City of Savannah summer camps, including general and specialty camps, are open for registration. General camps will run from May 26 to July 17. Ten community centers across Savannah will host their own themes for each two-week session, Locations and dates vary for all camps. Online registration will be open until a week before each session begins. Financial aid is available. Savannah residents get priority. Non-residents will be waitlisted until the week before camp.
Summer 500 student jobs: Chatham County high school juniors and seniors looking for part-time summer jobs can apply through the Student Workforce Apprentice/Internship Program (S.W.A.P)’s Summer 500 program. You must be a high school student in Chatham County, age 16 or older, and be able to teach and lead various activities. Employers are looking for people with excellent character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, patience, self-control, and a sense of humor. Starts immediately. Apply online here.

Summer Art Camp: Sign up now for Coastal Camden Art League’s Summer Art Camp. Session 2 runs 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19, at 2006 Osborne Road, St. Marys. Remember the fallen: Come pay tribute to American patriots who died in action this Memorial Day Weekend, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Fort McAllister State Park, 3894 Fort McAllister Road, Richmond Hill. See living history interpretations. including musket and cannon firings, and tour the fort, museum, and grounds on the banks of the Ogeechee River. Admission $5.50 – $9.75. May vendors fair: Come get a taste of authentic Puerto Rican puerco (whole roasted pork) and check out local crafts and small businesses at the May Vendors Fair, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 23 at D’Corner Latin Restaurant, 3975 U.S. 17, Richmond Hill. Catch that island vibe and try Puerto Rican cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.
GLYNN COUNTY
Howard Coffin Park official unveiling: The City of Brunswick will hold an official unveiling of 2.7 million in park improvements at Howard Coffin Park on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1402 Sonny Miller Way. The celebration will include a sign unveiling, family-friendly activities, and refreshments. The park’s pool will also open for the first day of the season from noon to 5 p.m. Major improvements include a walking track and accessibility enhancements, athletic field upgrades, and additions to the dog park, including new dog apparatuses, benches, shade structures, and lighting.
Coast Guard Beach to open for Memorial Day: The parking lot at Coast Guard Beach Park will open to the public on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, as construction continues on broader park improvements. Landscaping, irrigation installation, and building construction will continue on site after the parking lot opens. Portable restrooms will be available for public use. The full project includes expanded parking, drainage upgrades, ADA‑accessible facilities, new walkways, dune restoration, and construction of the new three‑story lifeguard tower. It is being delivered in two phases.
Get Your Will Written: The City of Brunswick, Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP), and Commissioner Gwen Atkinson-Williams will host a free Wills Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, June 5, at Old City Hall, 1229 Newcastle St. Simple wills, financial powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives by a GLSP staff attorney. Water treatment meeting: The Liberty County Development Authority hosts a public meeting on its proposed 1 to 3 million gallons per day water reclamation facility. Some water would flow to the Laurel View River. The meeting will happen 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 9 at the Courthouse Annex, 112 N Main St., Hinesville, in the Board of Commissioners Chambers, 2nd floor. ALONG THE COAST
Protect yourself: All branches of the Coastal Health District are offering free testing for sexually transmitted infections this month. One in five people in the U.S. are infected yet often don’t realize it until long-term serious damage develops. Protect yourself and the ones you love—get checked. See the schedule by county for an STI testing event near you.
Flu shots available: Health departments in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh counties now offer updated 2025-2026 flu vaccine. Supplies limited in some locations. Call your local health department to confirm availability and schedule an appointment. A yearly flu vaccine is the best way to prevent serious flu-related illness for everyone age 6 months and older. Insurance usually covers costs. Low-cost options available if you’re uninsured.
COVID shots available: The health departments in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh Counties are offering the Pfizer brand of COVID vaccine without a prescription, the Coastal Health District announced.
