Good morning!
This is Gracie Nelson, one of the summer fellows here at The Current. As a Savannah resident originally from Northeast Florida, I’m excited to delve deeper into our community here on the coast.
This week, we’ll provide resources to help you get through this sweltering and stormy week⛈️. We also have activities that will keep both kids and adults entertained during the weekend🏄♀️🫧.

CHATHAM COUNTY
Stonewall at Starland Yard🌈: Savannah Pride Center is proud to invite the community to its 9th Annual Stonewall at Starland Yard, taking place Saturday, June 27, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m at Starland Yard in Savannah. This year’s event will feature more than 25 local vendors, food and drink offerings, live entertainment, music, dancing, and two signature competitions that highlight important elements of LGBTQIA+ culture.
Help Keep Seniors Cool: Donate a fan to help keep homebound older adults stay safe and comfortable through the hot summer. You can donate new 20-inch box fans (still in the box) or contribute funds to purchase them on your behalf. Donate online at this link or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays at Senior Citizens Inc, 3026 Bull St., in Savannah.
Pollinator Palooza: Bee City Savannah presents the Pollinator Palooza Summer Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday June 27, at Forsyth Park in Savannah. The free festival features hands-on activities, educational exhibits, wellness experiences, and opportunities to learn how pollinators support local ecosystems, food production, and biodiversity.
CAMDEN COUNTY
Bring Your Flag: The Woodbine Public Library plans to display 250 flags for July 4. Visit the library and pick up a kit at 103 E. Eighth St., Woodbine. Call 912-489-5490.
Low Country Boil & Silent Auction🦐: Enjoy a low country boil from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Crooked River State Park in St.Marys. Hosted by the Camden Community Family Center, community members are encouraged to come together for food, felowship and to help the community center through a silent auction. Tickets are $35 per person.
BRYAN COUNTY
Arts on the Coast Artnite Exhibit: The quarterly ArtNite exhibit from Arts on the Coast will host an opening reception from 5:30-8p.m. on Friday, June 26 at the Richmond Hill City Center. This quarter’s theme is Majestic. Through each artists’ interpretation of the word, they will create up to three pieces that represent what majestic means to them.
Hurricane Registry: Residents who have medical needs, physical disabilities and other transportation limitations and who need assistance have two options to register for help for hurricane evacuation. Residents of Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and Mcintosh counties may call 833-243-7344 or visit the Coastal Health District website at coastalhealthdistrict.org/registry to download an application.
GLYNN COUNTY
Dance Camp: Take advantage of a free dance camp presented by Brunswick City Commissioner Kendra Rolle, Coach Kathy Rae, Studio South Performing Arts Center, and the Golden Isles Dance Foundation. Whether your child is new to dance or already loves to move, this exciting program offers a fun opportunity to learn, build confidence, and make new friends. The camp begins on July 1 at Burroughs Molette Elementary School Gym. Ages 6 to 10 can register here, and ages 11 to 17 can register here.
Spring Into Summer Maker’s Market🌷: from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, the University of Georgia Extension will be hosting their fourth annual Spring into Summer Maker’s Market at the Glynn County Extension. The market will include over 50 crafters, vendors and food trucks.
LIBERTY COUNTY
It’s Play Time!🛝 Liberty County holds ribbon-cuttings at two parks Tuesday, June 30. At 9 a.m., check out the new playground equipment at Briar Bay Park, 3850 Barrington Ferry Rd., Riceboro. Then at 10 a.m., try out the new slides and swings at Jesse Stevens Park, 8787 E. Oglethorpe Hwy., Midway, at Historic Dorchester Academy. Pack a picnic, bring a cold drink, and turn the kids loose on state-of-the-art gear built just for them.
State of the County: Liberty County’s annual State of the County Luncheon takes place at noon today, Thursday, June 25, at the Liberty County Performing Arts Center, 2140 E. Oglethorpe Hwy., Hinesville. $30 members, $50 non-members, plus $10 upcharge for non-RSVP. Sponsored by T.R. Long Engineering and the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.
Free Food Help: Liberty County Manna House will hold a free food give–away from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 27, at 244 W. Memorial Drive, Hinesville, to mark Independence Day. MCINTOSH COUNTY
Red, White & Blue on the Bluff: celebrate 250 of independence on Saturday, June 27 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Darien Waterfront. The event is free, family friendly and will include live music as well as refreshments available for purchase. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Back to School Bash✏️: The Cool Kids of McIntosh County will be hosting in support of Sheriff Thornell “T.K.” King’s Back To School Bash 2026. Donations can be online or at the McIntosh County Sherriff’s Office, Darien City Hall or Darien City Hall Annex. More information along with a curated wishlish be found on The Cool Kids of McIntosh County GA Facebook page.
ALONG THE COAST
National HIV Testing Day: On Saturday June 27, the Coastal Health District HIV Prevention Program, in partnership with Walgreens, will hold free HIV testing events. Testing loacations and times can be found on the Georgia Department of Public Health HIV Services Page. All testing is free and confidential. In addition to testing, there will also be giveaways and educational services at these events.
Back to School Checkups: Children entering pre-K, kindergarten, 7th grade, or 11th grade may need screenings and immunizations to enroll in school this fall. County health departments are holding back to school checkups in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh Counties. Check the times and locations nearest you.
Issue Investigation: Data Centers in Coastal Georgia (Webinar Series): Every other Tuesday at noon from June 30-August 11, 100 Miles will hold a webinar series investigating the issue of data centers in Coastal Georgia, answering questions and providing updates from advocates across Georgia’s coast.
