What’s next: When we have published an error of fact, we will 1) correct or clarify the story or item and 2) replace it with correction information within the article and 3) include an editor’s note about the change on the same web page. Errors of fact or clarifications will be noted at the top of the story; any changes that do not affect the facts of the story will be noted at the end, such as a typographical error in a name or place. Correction: Oct. 15, 2025, 11:50 a.m.: The article Honey bees helped this coastal advocate; she’s returning the favor was corrected to reflect that Sade Shofidiya knew Mayor Van Johnson before meeting with him at a conference in Accra, Ghana; and that Shofidiya maintained bee hives at the Coastal Empire Beekeepers Association apiary but did not learn beekeeping there.

Correction: Sept. 24, 2025, 3:15 p.m.: An earlier version of the article “Glynn slow to shut off brighter turtle-confusing lights near Buc-ee’s” misstated the first name of the Georgia DNR Commissioner. He is Walter Rabon.

Correction, Aug. 27, 2025 7:45 p.m. Correction: The article How Hyundai’s water demand stacks up was updated to indicate the water International Paper buys from the city of Savannah is treated surface water from the Savannah River. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the source of the treated water.

Jan. 29, 2025, 8:50 p.m. Clarification: The article Pause in federal grants puts some environmental programs in limbo was modified to distinguish Nicole Lee’s personal statements from those made on behalf of her business and the programs that contract with it.

Updates: This story was updated at 8:06 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, to show official confirmation of seven fatalities.

  • Correction: 9:18 p.m. Oct. 19, 2024: This article was updated to correct a quote from Carolyn Rader that had been misattributed.
  • The story was updated and corrected at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, to reflect new information: Members of the performing group on ramp at the time of the collapse were part of the Gullah Geechee Ring Shouters.
  • Correction 6:01 p.m., Sun. Oct 20: The Taylors are from Buford in north Georgia, not Buford, South Carolina.

Aug. 23, 2024, 9:23 a.m. Clarification: The headline on the article “Glynn commission hears case for housing for working men, expresses doubts for neighborhood” was updated to clarify that the meeting was an informational meeting and a vote has not occurred on the project.

August 15, 2024, 8:56 a.m.: Correction: Richmond Hill’s mayor is Russ Carpenter.

July 22, 2024, 9:12 p.m.: Correction, updates: The story “As workers train, Hyundai Metaplant salary picture takes shape” has been updated to correct the model and cost of the vehicle that will be built at the Hyundai Metaplant. The story has also been updated to include new, additional comment from Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America about wage bands and salary increases, as well as to clarify the relationship between HMGMA and its affiliated suppliers.

July 17, 2024, 10:54 a.m.: Correction: The article “Liberty County Commission takes control of funds from speed-camera violations” was corrected to reflect the Liberty County Commission’s final vote was 5-2.

July 9, 2024, 7:45 p.m.: Correction: The article “Completion of Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion delayed until second quarter” was corrected to reflect the correct outage period for Vogtle 3 of Jan. 28 through Feb. 1, 2024.

June 26, 2024, 2 p.m.: Corrections: The June 26, 2024 Coast Watch newsletter was corrected to indicate the Bulloch County Commission postponed the votes it had scheduled for a special called meeting June 25, 2024.

June 12, 2024, 12:30 p.m.: Correction: The story “Georgia to rehab Ossabaw mansionwas updated to reflect a corrected number of bathrooms in the Torrey West house as well as the official name of the Ossabaw Island Project and a list of its alumni.

June 5, 2024, 5:38 p.m.: Correction: This story and headline for “Liberty County sheriff: Bowman to face Eason” was updated to correct that the election will not go to a June runoff. The candidates will meet on the November ballot.

May 23, 2024, 5 p.m.: Correction: The article “Most of Coastal Georgia skipped May primary election” was corrected to reflect the correct number of non-voters in Coastal Georgia.

April 29, 9:27 a.m. Correction: SEDA is funding RISE’s first year; SEDA is in talks with Georgia Southern for the childcare study.

April 19, 2024, 4:10 p.m. Clarification: The April 17, 2024 Coast Watch newsletter was updated to clarify that RYAM manufactures cellulose fibers used in items ranging from cigarette filters to diapers. It doesn’t manufacture those finished products.

April 7, 2024, 9:44 a.m.; April 8, 2024, 5:37 p.m.: Corrections: The story “Hinesville adds more special conditions to mobile home park deal” was updated to reflect that Ashley Smith is not a military spouse. And, updated to clarify that George Griggs is an Army veteran but did not serve in Vietnam.

April 7, 2024, 4:17 p.m.: Correction: A previous version of Federal prosecutors probe Camden County jail beating” improperly named one of the deputies involved in the jail incident. The officer’s name is Ryan Biegel.

April 2, 2024, 8:34 a.m.: Correction: The Soundings newsletter for April 2, 2024, was updated at 8:43 a.m. April 2, 2024, to reflect the correct last name of district attorney candidate Jenny Parker, and to change the time of the voter forum to a 6:30 p.m. start.

March 19, 2024, 2:57 p.m.: Clarification: The article “Private fire hydrants pose public danger in Hinesville” originally stated fire hydrant 1143 was “in the woods next to the Maybank Condominiums.” The president of the homeowner’s association, Latisha Darville, said the hydrant is not owned by the HOA.

March 13, 2024, 2 p.m.: The article “Want clean electricity? Elected officials get to decide,” originally misidentified which U.S. Court of Appeals reversed a federal decision. It was corrected at 2 p.m. March 13, 2024.

Feb. 2, 2024, 6:25 p.m.: Correction: In the article “State House committee approves coastal marshland ownership bill,” saltmarsh owners are expected to be able to profit from their land through establishing mitigation banks. A previous version of this article misstated the expected source of profit.

Feb. 15, 2024, 11:25 a.m. Correction: The Coast Watch newsletter published Feb. 14, 2024 cited an incorrect the date for EPD’s virtual public hearing for Twin Pines’ draft mining permits. It will be held at 6 p.m. on March 5.

Dec. 18, 2023, 12:45 p.m. Correction: In the article “Water plans for Hyundai trouble Bulloch residents,” no elected officials accepted an invitation to speak ahead of the public comments, but at least two elected officials attended the meeting: Bulloch County Commissioners Timmy Rushing and Toby Conner, the latter speaking during the public comment period without indicating his position. A previous version incorrectly indicated no elected officials attended.

Nov. 29, 2023, 4 p.m.: Correction: In the article “Rebuilding Coastal Ga. oyster reefs could help fight climate change,” Yamaha’s sustainability program manager is Josh Grier. A previous version of this article misspelled his last name.

Nov. 3, 2023: Editor’s note: In the article, “Savannah candidates’ records: From speeding to bounced checks,” two traffic charges, two financial accusations and one misdemeanor alcohol offense were misreported as belonging to former Alderman Tony Thomas. At least three of those belonged to another Tony Thomas who also worked at the city of Savannah when Alderman Thomas did. The Current sought comment from former Alderman Thomas prior to the article publishing to clear up any confusion, but he did not return messages. This story incorrectly characterized candidate Jason Combs’ job history. It has been corrected.
