ROADS: Don’t drive unless necessary.
Check the Waze app for road closures — bridges and interstate routes are closing consistently. Officials are reporting those closures through the app. Also monitor chathamemergency.org for closures and updates in the Savannah area.
Motorists are reporting that they have been stranded for 3 hours on I-95 as of 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Georgia Department of Transportation’s 511GA page notes, “A State of Emergency declaration remains in effect for all of Georgia. Due to the inclement winter weather, motorists need to stay off the roads. Road conditions are deteriorating quickly and becoming dangerous to travel, especially in the state’s central, southern, and coastal parts.
Stay safe, stay inside, and call 511 to report icy road conditions or incidents. 511GA operators are available 24/7 to assist.”

ALL COASTAL COUNTIES

BRYAN
SCHOOLS: Bryan County Schools will be remained closed through Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. A hearing on House Bill 581 scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Bryan County Board of Education Central Office.
The Day School at Church of the Hill will be open as usual on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
UPDATE: The Camden County and Glynn County Health Departments, along with the Coastal Health District’s Brunswick office, will have a delayed opening at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 24.
The Bryan County Health Department will remain closed through Friday, January 24.
CLOSINGS, CANCELLATIONS:
- Bryan County Planning and Zoning Commission/Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for Tuesday is canceled due to inclement weather. Items scheduled for this meeting will be readvertised and considered at the Feb. 18, 2025, meeting. The February meeting will be in Richmond Hill.
- Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) will be closed through Thursday, Jan. 23. An announcement on the return to normal operations will be made at a later time.
WARMING CENTERS: Setups will be minimalistic, with no cots, showers, or other amenities. South Bryan County Warming Station: Timber Trail Gymnasium, 508 Timber Trail, Richmond Hill; North Bryan County Warming Station: Pembroke Christian Church Social Hall, 116 West Bacon St., Pembroke.
Residents are strongly urged to shelter in place and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. Hazardous road conditions, particularly on bridges, are expected as freezing rain and snow begin to accumulate. Bryan County Public Works crews are actively sanding bridges and preparing roads ahead of the storm to enhance safety.
CAMDEN
Camden County and municipal offices will reopen with regular hours tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.
The Camden County Health Department will have a delayed opening at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025.
SCHOOLS: Camden County Schools will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23. This includes all after-school activities and events.
CLOSINGS: Camden County Government and Municipalities will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23 to the public and will operate with essential personnel only. Offices are anticipated to re-open with regular hours on Friday, Jan. 24.
Camden County Fire Rescue Life Squads will be limiting patient transport to local hospitals. Road conditions may also delay response times across the county.
The Camden County Landfills will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23. Curbside Collection services will not run on Thursday, Jan. 23. Both Wednesday and Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, Jan. 24. Friday routes will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025.
WARMING CENTERS: The Camden County Recreation Center is open overnight from 8 tonight and will be open through Saturday. The location is 1050 Wildcat Drive, Kingsland. Call 912-729-5602 if you have any additional questions.

CHATHAM-SAVANNAH
Savannah’s 311 call center and the 311SAV app are active for questions or requests for services.
SCHOOLS: All Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools athletic events and practices have been cancelled for Friday, Jan, 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25, because of the winter storm. Plans for rescheduled competitions will be released as soon as they are available.
Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools continue with Remote-Learning for students on Friday, Jan. 24. An operational update will be provided no later than 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, regarding operations on Monday. Tharros Place‘s in-person fundraiser, Cocktails for Courage, originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 is partially canceled but the auction will be held online. Those who already purchased tickets have the option of converting their ticket into a donation or requesting a full or partial donation. Those making donations will receive a gift acknowledgment letter for documentation. The silent auction planned for the event will now be held online for bidders at tharrosplace.betterworld.org/auctions/cocktails-courage-2025 and will end at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan.26, with winners notified on Monday, Jan. 27.
CLOSINGS:
- Chatham County Health Department will be through Friday, Jan. 24. Cervical Cancer Awareness Event and Health Fair with Healthy Savannah will be rescheduled at a later date.
- 2025 Savannah Traffick Jam Law Enforcement Training and Public Safety and Public Service Job Fair is cancelled for Friday, Jan. 24, at Savannah State University. The 10th Annual Savannah Traffick Jam Human Trafficking Conference WILL continue as scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.
- Chatham County Board of Commissioners meeting originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, has been rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 27, 2025. - All Chatham County offices remain closed through Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. Due to expected inclement weather on Friday, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners meeting originally scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025, has been rescheduled to Monday, January 27, 2025.
- The Coleman Courthouse and Juvenile Court remains closed through Friday.
- Tybee city offices will remain closed on Thursday, 1/23/25. City offices anticipate reopening at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.
- Greenbriar Children’s Center Administrative Offices and early learning centers will be closed Thursday. A decision on Friday will be made later Thursday.
- City of Pooler administrative offices will remain closed through Friday, January 24, as will the Senior Center and Recreation activities.
- Garden City City Hall will be closed through Friday, January 24, 2025. Only critical workforce/essential services will be in place.
- If you are flying out of Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, check with your airline before you leave and confirm your reservations. As of noon Tuesday, flight cancellations were being announced for the next few days. Drivers may drop rental cars and use drop boxes as the rental car counters. The airport is updating its Instagram page with information. As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan, 23, runways are “currently scheduled to remain closed until tomorrow afternoon, [Friday,] Jan. 24, based on current conditions. As crews are working continuously to clear trouble spots, runways and taxiways will be reopened and flights can resume as soon as it is safe to do so.”
- Savannah city administrative offices and facilities will remain closed through Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, and expects to fully reopen on Monday. The city remains under a State of Emergency effective until Friday Jan. 24. Thursday’s City Council meeting, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., has been postponed until Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Board of Education’s Whitney Administrative Complex at 2 Laura Ave. Emergency services will remain open. The Incident Management Team for the city has been activated. The Emergency Operations Center will be opened for 24-hour operations beginning on Tuesday. The City’s 311 call center is active. Residents are encouraged to submit requests for services by calling or using the 311SAV App. For emergencies, dial 911.
- At noon Tuesday, Chatham County Sheriff suspends all enforcement operations for statewide emergency for weather. In coordination with the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. All sheriff’s deputies will shift their focus to patrolling the county to assist with emergency operations and provide support where needed. Deputies will be available to aid county and municipal agencies and respond to emergencies as conditions permit.
- Savannah sanitation routes will resume on Monday, Jan. 27, on a regular schedule. Residential garbage collection, recycling collection, and yard waste collection services have suspended operations through Friday. The Bacon Park transfer station and Dean Forest Landfill remain closed. An announcement will be made once the facilities are scheduled to reopen.
- Live Oak Public Libraries will remain closed Friday. Saturday operations are yet to be determined.
- The Cinema Savannah film screening scheduled for Thursday evening at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center has been cancelled.
- Hunter Army Airfield: See Fort Stewart entry under Liberty County.
- Savannah Technical College will continue virtual learning for students and remote work for employees and will resume normal campus operations, including in-person classes, on Monday, Jan. 27. Updates will be communicated through available channels, including the Savannah Tech website, email, and social media at https://www.savannahtech.edu/student-affairs/emergency-communications/.
- Chatham County Board of Registrars – Monthly meeting and workshop scheduled for noon, Jan. 22, 2025, is being postponed.
- The JEA will remain closed through Friday, January 24, 2025. Pending safe conditions, the JEA and Savannah Jewish Federation will return to normal operations on Saturday, Jan. 25.
WARMING CENTERS: The Tompkins Regional Center, 2333 Ogeechee Road, will remain open from 7 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. on Friday. Pets, under the owner’s control, are welcome. Bare essentials will be provided for people, all needed supplies for pets should be brought. Capacity at the warming center will be limited. Additionally, the City will also open the John Delaware Center, at 7 p.m. Thursday night as a warming center. Both will close Friday morning at 10 a.m. Both centers will assist in providing shelter for the unhoused population in coordination with Chatham County and the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless.
Residents are encouraged to minimize travel, stay indoors, check on the elderly and bring pets inside during the worst part of the extreme cold. For winter weather safety tips and updates, visit //savannahga.gov/winterweather. Media will not be allowed in the warming centers.
The Savannah Police Department and Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH) can assist in transporting residents to shelter locations if required.

Homeless Service Provider Partners are also extending hours and services to serve persons experiencing homelessness. Transportation is available through CSAH outreach staff from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Please call the numbers above for assistance and transportation support.

- Union Mission Grace House Day Center: Open Tuesday, Jan. 21. Operations may vary due to weather conditions on Wednesday, Thursday.
GLYNN

On Thursday afternoon, GDOT closed the Sidney Lanier Bridge due to falling ice. Reopen time is unknown.
The Glynn County Board of Commissioners and the City of Brunswick have announced that the curfew has been lifted tonight and Friday.
Hard freezes are possible through Saturday night.
SCHOOLS: Glynn County Schools will have a teacher work day on Friday Jan. 24, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17, 2025 and March 10, 2025 will become regular school days for students, which were initially planned to be work days for teachers.
The Glynn County Health Department, along with the Coastal Health District’s Brunswick office, will have a delayed opening at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025.
CLOSINGS:
- Glynn County and The City of Brunswick offices will reopen for normal office operations on Friday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.
- Glynn County Courts will re-open on Friday for normal operations at 9 a.m.
- College of Coastal Georgia will continue with all classes online Friday. There will be reduced operations for faculty and staff. The college will return to its normal schedule and operations on Monday, Jan. 27. Any updates will be shared through the College of Coastal Georgia website, social media, emails, and text messages. - Glynn County libraries are open on Friday Jan. 24, 2025.
- Brunswick-Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission will reopen on Friday Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.
- Republic Services will not pick up trash on Thursday. The regular schedule resumes on Friday. Customers with Wednesday and Thursday pickup will be picked up next week on their regular day. If you are scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday service, you will not be charged for this week’s service.
WARMING CENTERS: There are four locations where you can go to warm or charge electronics or seek shelter for today.
1: CCGA Conference Center from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
2: The Club at 2929 Demere Rd, SSI from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
3: Risley Annex at 2900 Albany St from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
4: St Athanasius Episcopal Church at 1321 Albany St from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Well is open tonight (Jan 23) and tomorrow night (Jan 24) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. at 1101 Gloucester. They need food donations for tonight. Food can be dropped off between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. For all signups (food and volunteering), please visit.
LIBERTY

Liberty County Fire and Emergency Services is urging residents to stay off the roads: “Due to icy conditions, please limit all travel to only what is absolutely necessary. We are utilizing all available resources to address this weather event. Your safety is our priority.”
Liberty County offices will be closed through at least Friday, Jan. 24, per County Administrator Joey Brown: “Temperatures are expected to climb above freezing today which will allow for some melting of snow and ice. However, some areas of roadways not exposed directly to sunlight may remain frozen. Side streets and roads may not thaw at all. Tonight’s temperatures are projected to once again be in the 20s, which means that wet surfaces will freeze once again, and black ice will be prevalent. Authorities are doing all they can to combat the situation with resources available but travel for other than emergency situations should be avoided.…Please monitor your email for important announcements and updates or the County Facebook page or County website.”
The City of Hinesville has suspended all non-emergency travel under a Declaration of Local Emergency by Mayor Karl Riles. Ongoing weather conditions have forced the city to revise its garbage pickup schedule again:
- Wednesday and Thursday Routes: Collection will begin on Sunday and work to complete the routes normally scheduled for these days.
- Friday Routes: Collection will begin on Monday, along with the regular Monday routes.
- The normal garbage pickup schedule will resume Tuesday.
SCHOOLS: Liberty County Schools will remain on virtual learning through Friday, Jan. 24. Students should have their iPads or Chromebooks.
CLOSINGS:
Liberty Regional Medical Center says “all Medical Practices in Hinesville and Midway, including the Walk-In Clinic” are closed Thursday, Jan. 23. LRMC says it plans to reopen at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
The Liberty County Health Department will remain closed through Friday, January 24, 2025.

Liberty County convenience centers and the Liberty County Transfer Station are open as of noon Friday.
The Liberty County Clerk of Court’s office will be closed through Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, reopening at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27.
All Liberty County Recreation basketball games for Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22 are cancelled.
Live Oak Public Libraries remain closed Thursday, Jan. 23, with a decision pending about Friday, Jan. 24. Due dates and holds will be extended and late fees will be waived during the closure. The City of Hinesville’s administrative offices and facilities remain closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
Hinesville Municipal Court‘s Wednesday, Jan. 22 session will be rescheduled.
Flemington City Hall will reopen Monday, Jan. 27. Trash pickup is expected to resume Friday, Jan. 24. The special called meeting on the Downtown District Overlay Plan scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 has been cancelled.
The City of Walthourville is open for business as of Friday, Jan., 24. The city’s garbage contractor, Atlantic Waste, will resume normal pickup Monday, Jan. 27.
The City of Midway ‘s Mayor Levern Clancy says City Hall should reopen Monday, Jan, 27 “if weather permits.” Trash pickup will happen Wednesdsay, Jan. 29. If your trash can is full, “make sure trash is in garbage bags right beside the can.”
The City of Riceboro has suspended garbage pickup through Thursday, Jan. 23. Mayor Chris Stacy notes, “All Wednesday and Thursday routes will be collecting overage next week. Recycling that was to be run today and tomorrow will have the option to wait until the next scheduled pickup day or for it to be disposed of as trash on their normal trash day.”
Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield “anticipates a delayed open at 11 a.m. for Soldiers and civilian workforce. Key and essential personnel will report at 10 a.m. Leaders are empowered to support their Soldiers as mission dictates based on individual situations. Contact your first line supervisor or chain of command for reporting instructions. If you must travel today, exercise extreme caution on the roads. Bridges and overpasses can freeze quickly and expect formation of black ice on the roads. The Liberty County Boys and Girls Club is closed from Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Thursday, Jan. 23 and is monitoring conditions for a decision about Friday, Jan. 24.
WARMING CENTERS: None yet announced. The City of Hinesville contracts with a local hotel for unhoused people seeking to get out of dangerous weather. However, “emergency shelter is not automatic or guaranteed. Service is based on coordinated entry assessment prioritization,” according to the city’s website.
Starting Tuesday, Jan. 21, Hinesville’s Homeless Prevention Program staff “will reach out to provide emergency assistance until the conclusion of the severe weather event.” People who receive emergency housing must check out on that last day.

LONG
SCHOOLS: Long County Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. All athletic activities and practices are cancelled/ District administrators and Emergency Management Authority officials will monitor weather conditions. School officials will continue to work closely with local EMA officials to monitor our weather conditions, and will announce Wednesday whether schools will remain closed through Thursday, Jan. 23.
CLOSINGS:
The Long County Health Department will remain closed through Friday, January 24, 2025.
WARMING CENTERS: A warming center will open at the Long County Jail, 465 South McDonald Street, Ludowici, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 22. “to provide a safe, warm space during the extreme cold.” County officials will decide whetgher to extend the warming center through Thursday, Jan. 23 depending on weather conditions.
This shelter is made possible by Long County Fire Department Volunteers, Rotary Club of Long County, the Homeless Coalition, Manna House of Long County, and the Long County Sheriff’s Office.

MCINTOSH
SCHOOLS: McIntosh County Schools will move to remote learning and remote work days for through Friday, January 24, 2025. All after-school activities, practices, and events are cancelled for these days, including the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club.
Teachers and/or school officials will post assignments by noon on Tuesday.
CLOSINGS:
- All county offices and Darien city offices are closed Wednesday.
- Broad Street Resealing/Restriping GA Asphalt was unable to start the resealing/restriping of Broad Street project due to the cold temperatures. The schedule has been pushed to begin Friday, 1/17/25.
- The McIntosh County Health Department will remain closed through Friday, January 24. 2025.
WARMING CENTERS: Darien United Methodist Church at 201 Franklin St and South Newport Baptist Church at 23344 US Highway 17 will be open as warming centers starting at 6 p.m. tonight.
