The district covering parts of central Glynn will now be represented by Harvey, a Democrat, marking a shift in the landscape of the seven-person commission that has long been a GOP majority.
Harvey, an Air Force veteran, told The Current GA in October that the district needed someone to ‘galvanize’ it. Among the issues now on Harvey’s plate is what to do with the former Hercules/Pinova plant and the desolate Glynn Place Mall.
He served as the City of Brunswick’s first Black mayor from 2014 to 2019.
The 73-year-old will be joined by another freshman commissioner, Dane Hutcheson, who filled the District 3 seat of commission chair, Wayne Neal, who decided not to run for re-election.
