To understand why people are ignoring a risk that could lead to expensive damage and eventually lower their property value, Georgia State researchers talked to hundreds of Florida real estate agents about their clients’ motivations and concerns.

Risa Palm is the immediate past-Provost of Georgia State University and has held tenured positions at the rank of Full Professor in the Departments of Geography at Georgia State University, the University at Buffalo, Louisiana State University, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, the University of Oregon and the University of Colorado. She has held the position of both dean and also provost at several of these universities. Palm is the past-president of the American Association of Geographers and the recipient of numerous awards and honors. She is the author of 13 books and monographs as well as numerous refereed articles and chapters on topics including urban geography, response to natural hazards and climate change communication.
