Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

“This agency does not post agendas online”

Most counties, school boards and cities post their agendas and even detailed documents before board meetings so that the public can see what’s up for discussion.

But the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority is among the public agencies led by a powerful unelected board that does not proactively extend this information to the public on its website.

The agency owns the land on which OpenAI plans its massive Rincon data center and it’s the agency that decides whether to offer companies property tax breaks.

ECIDA meetings have been regularly posted in this newsletter since 2024, but with the note that the agency doesn’t post agendas online.

If an agency or public board in your county isn’t posting its meeting information, you can always call and ask for it — you never know what might be in there.

Those meetings are open to the public, but the board isn’t answerable to voters. The county’s commissioners and its cities appoint ECIDA board members.
