CHATHAM COUNTY

North Beach cleanup: Fight Dirty Tybee is coordinating a cleanup of North Beach from 10 a.m. to noon on June 7. Participants will receive a free admission pass to the Tybee Marine Science Center.
‘End the Gun Violence’ Awareness Event: In honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the Savannah Impact Program (SIP) is hosting an “End the Gun Violence” awareness event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at 2005 Waters Ave. The event calls for an end to gun violence in Savannah and is open to the public. Community leaders and advocacy groups will raise awareness of the consequences of gun violence to educate Savannah’s younger residents. To honor survivors of gun violence, attendees are encouraged to wear orange.
Help seniors keep cool: Donate a fan to help keep homebound older adults stay safe and comfortable through the hot summer. You can donate new 20-inch box fans (still in the box) or contribute funds to purchase them on your behalf. Donate online at this link or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays at Senior Citizens Inc, 3026 Bull St., in Savannah.
CAMDEN COUNTY

32nd Annual Kids Fishing Derby: Grab your poles and get your bait ready for a fun-filled morning of fishing, prizes, and memories from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the State Route-110 Municipal Solid Waste Landfill. Open to all kids 16 and under. Register here.
Plant Swap: At 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, the St. Marys Public Library is having a free Plant Swap! Bring in the plants, cuttings, or seeds you’re ready to part with and leave with something new to you.
BRYAN COUNTY
Pop-up splash pad: Beat the heat this summer and cool off at the Richmond Hill Fire Department’s free pop-up splash pad! It’s open from 10 to 11 a.m. June 4, at J.F. Gregory Park. Bring your family and friends, and clothes you can get wet.

Rev Up to Read program: The Richmond Hill Public Library will participate in the Monster Jam: Rev Up to Read Program. Kids ages 2-12 can check out and read five books from the library to earn a free ticket to Monster Jam at the Enmarket Arena! The eligible show dates for this program are: Friday, July 31st at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. The program runs until August 2. Go pick up some books to secure your ticket.
GLYNN COUNTY
Bring Your Own Picnic: Join the Green Drinks program from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at Twitty Park, 3000 Frederica Road, St. Simons. Wake Up Coffee will provide iced coffee and lemonade to enjoy with lawn games, mingling, and tree hugging. Glynn Environmental Coalition will provide information about Twitty Park and the current development plans that threaten it.

GCPD Deploys Three New HEAT Vehicles: The Glynn County Police Department has placed three new Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) vehicles into service. The vehicles were purchased with a $377,221 H.E.A.T. grant that supports traffic safety initiatives statewide. The H.E.A.T. program funds specialized traffic enforcement units in jurisdictions with high rates of crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Glynn County wins Georgia County Excellence Award: Glynn County won a 2026 Georgia County Excellence Award for its Friday Night Hoops Initiative. The Friday Night Hoops Initiative offers a free, supervised open gym for students ages 12 to 16. The 2026 season of Friday Night Hoops begins Friday, June 5, at the Glynn Academy Annex Gym and runs through Friday, July 17. Sessions run from 6 to 8 p.m. for 6th-8th graders and 8 to 10 p.m. for 9th-11th graders. The program is free for all kids, open to boys and girls, and includes dinner.
LIBERTY COUNTY
O Captain, My Captain! Keep Liberty Beautiful is calling all captains ahead of its annual Beach Cleanup at St. Catherines Island, boarding at 7 a.m, and departing 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 6, departing from the Sunbury Boat Ramp, 3295 Fort Morris Road., Midway. Water Treatment Meeting: The Liberty County Development Authority hosts a public meeting on its proposed 1 to 3 million gallons per day water reclamation facility. Some water would flow to the Laurel View River. The meeting will happen 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, at the Courthouse Annex, 112 N Main St., Hinesville, in the Board of Commissioners Chambers, 2nd floor. MCINTOSH COUNTY
McIntosh S.E.E.D. meeting: McIntosh Sustainable Environment and Economic Development (S.E.E.D.) invites women landowners and community members to connect virtually to discuss agroforestry, forest preservation, and sustainable agricultural practices that help protect and strengthen local communities. The meeting will start at 6 p.m on Thursday, June 11, 2026, via Zoom. You can register to join here.
New YMCA location: The McIntosh YMCA is entering an exciting new chapter as the YMCA of Coastal Georgia announces the branch’s relocation to a new facility designed to better serve the community. Beginning in June the McIntosh YMCA will officially open at its new location, 5873 US-17, Darien, 31305.

Summer Reading Kickoff Event: The Statesboro Regional Public Libraries Summer Reading Program is back, offering a season of reading, fun, and adventure for families across Effingham County. The event will be held this Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex, 1750 GA 21. Protect yourself: All branches of the Coastal Health District are offering free testing for sexually transmitted infections this month. One in five people in the U.S. are infected yet often don’t realize it until long-term serious damage develops. Protect yourself and the ones you love—get checked. See the schedule by county for an STI testing event near you.
Flu shots available: Health departments in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh counties now offer updated 2025-2026 flu vaccine. Supplies limited in some locations. Call your local health department to confirm availability and schedule an appointment. A yearly flu vaccine is the best way to prevent serious flu-related illness for everyone age 6 months and older. Insurance usually covers costs. Low-cost options available if you’re uninsured.
COVID shots available: The health departments in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh Counties are offering the Pfizer brand of COVID vaccine without a prescription, the Coastal Health District announced.

Richmond Hill rejects nickel refining in zoning appeal
