Bryan public puts nickel refinery on its agenda

Residents of Bryan County, from the commission chair to Facebook posters, have questions about a company’s proposal to build a nickel refinery in Richmond Hill.

Westwin Elements is inviting people to a town hall Monday at 6 p.m. at the Richmond Hill City Center at 520 Cedar Street, Richmond Hill, 31324.

The meeting is organized by the company, not the city or county. So it’s up to the company to decide if comments and questions will be allowed. 

As The Current GA reported last week, Westwin is using both legal muscle and open-house manners to try and gain support. 

Public boards will have a say over whether to use a public agency to facilitate financing for the refinery. The Development Authority of Bryan County is the first stop for that. That board’s next regular meeting is February 10 at 8:00 a.m. — but the agenda and a written statement from the board chair indicates consideration of bond financing was struck at the company’s request.
