Sunday Solutions — Oct. 27, 2024

Good morning! As of last night, we know that 307 Georgians age 100 or older have voted early, so you can, too…unless you didn’t register and that’s a whole ‘nother conversation. We’ve also got a look at what you may need to know, a spot to check facts, and news of the week. Let’s roll!

Decision for voters: Who manages growth

If you’re in Chatham County, early polls are open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Sunday voting. One race on that ballot hinges on how you view the county’s future and who can help manage it. Incumbent Chester Ellis says he’s quietly gotten money to help the county catch up on its needs while challenger Joel Boblasky says leadership needs to be more proactive for the future. The Current’s Craig Nelson sat down with Ellis to hear his view of his record and with Boblasky to hear what he sees for Chatham’s future.

Religion and votes

What does it mean to vote for the soul of a nation? In Episode 6 of Coastal Navigator, we explore into how faith has impacted this election — how voters and faith leaders alike are understanding the candidates and the future of the country. From the pews of a “gospel get out the vote” event to the voices of pastors on both sides of the aisle, we dig into how faith affects our communities and our choices ahead of Nov 5. Look for the next pod at this link — and catch up on ones you’ve missed.

Need more info? We’ve got more

If you’re not in the 2.786 million Georgians who have already voted, you may be looking for more info. This week we’ve added two collections to our elections guide that might help: Fact checks and stories outlining positions on a variety of topics for both presidential candidates. That way, you can sort fact from fiction and compare candidates’ stands to see which matches up with your own.
